The Project has the objective to create an additional service proposition in the port of Ghent (Belgium). In first instance, it will be used to expand the storage capacity of ArcelorMittal Belgium and to improve the logistics processes, both at ArcelorMittal site in the port of Ghent as within the larger region offering transshipment potential for neighbouring ArcelorMittal facilities. Besides AMG, other potential customers are currently being approached to make use of the infrastructure and to strengthen seamless transport chains for freight in the Ghent, Flanders and wider European area. The project is strategically located to provide cross-border transport solutions, and adds key infrastructure projects on the European core network (TEN-T) in sustainable transport modes such as rail and inland waterways. The upcoming construction of a new sea lock in Terneuzen, the refurbishment of the ringroad around Ghent and the integration of several surrounding ports into a cluster of ports, better known as North Sea Port, will add to the future potential of the site.
